So congratulations to Ian Butler for winning the prestigious Sydney Allard trophy, in the end it boiled down to reliability, both in mechanical terms and keeping the car on track, Ian was one of only two drivers to of finished every race (Keith White being the other, with far fewer wins), he didn’t have the biggest class and that restricted his scoring potential, had Andy Woods-Dean suffered just one less dnf, he could of lifted the trophy, similar goes for Daniel smith, his two dnfs cost him dearly, and what of the DMN drivers? best of them was Darren Bly, his actual points tally was 131, allowing the loss of a round, if you added points in for two extra wins coupled with fastest laps his total would of only gone to 153 points, once again it goes back to dnf’s, had Darren not lost an engine at Lydden he would of without doubt, lifted the crown, and the old saying “to finish first you have to finish” comes to mind!
