The
Mazda first raced in 1989 in the hands of Mike Wilson. The design and build
was carried out by Jim Morgan. A very capable engineer who had previously
created the cars used in the film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and later went
on to build the Honda.
The
body shell had earlier been used by the 1979 F1 World Champion Jody
Scheckter. But at that time it was a Rallysprint car.
The
engine was a 3.4 litre V6 Cosworth pumping out around 435bhp.
1991
was the year Rod got his hands on the car and in 1992 ArmorAll came aboard
which also saw the birth of the now familiar black paint job.
Today
the car is owned by Bailey Motorsport and can often be seen using it on
track days.
